"Our mission is to take in abused or unwanted birds, rehabilitate them with a lot of love and care, and give them a new chance in life," says Clint. "There's nothing more gratifying than seeing these once-unwanted or abused birds now living rich and happy lives and being out in public for everyone to enjoy.
"We never sell, trade or give our birds away," he says, "and since parrots can live to be 100 years of age or more, its a commitment that Top-Bird Inc. takes very seriously.
BIRD SANCTUARY AND REHABILITATION:
As the greatest avian attraction in the world, the magnificent birds of Clint Carvalhos TopBird Entertainment have delighted millions of audience members in almost every corner of the globe over the years. Whether
entertaining on a showroom stage, interacting with the crowds in a Bird-Girl presentation, diving from a hotel
tower for a television audience, in a casino promotion, theme park, cruise ship or school classroom, these unique and talented birds never fail to illicit a continuous mlange of laughs, smiles, amazement and admiration from their human friends.
But there comes a time in every public presentation of TopBird Entertainment when audiences are let in on a little secret that is, perhaps, the most incredulous of all: each and every one of the birds that has performed for them is a part of TopBird Entertainments Bird Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Program.
"Its always a surprise," says Clint, TopBirds president and CEO, "and it gets a huge reaction. Audiences cant believe that these magnificent birds, which free-fly, sit on their shoulders, sing, play dead, talk and
everything else, have all been abandoned, donated, or rescued from abusive owners. It makes them appreciate what they are seeing even more."
TopBirds Bird Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Program is, and always has been, the only source for Clint's performing birds. There are, however, different levels of performing.
"I like to think of it as schooling," says Clint, "with various levels from kindergarten to college. The first step
is to fix all of the problems -- biting or chewing, and such -- and to find and build upon each birds comfort zone. Then we take them out in public, where they can be touched, held, photographed and allowed to fly freely. Just like humans, each bird has its own contentment level. Some birds are happy to just pose for photographs, others like to fly and interact with humans. Some
like to work for just a few hours a day, and some love the audiences, the applause, the loud music and are always ready to perform - these become our show birds. There is no bird that is left behind every bird is fixable."
TopBird Entertainment is the only company in the world where the birds pay for themselves. "We use our birds in dozen of new shows, attractions and venues each year, in addition to our school and community outreach programs," Clint says, "and the money earned allows us to exceed everyone else's level of care and hire the best trainers and caregivers possible. Many of our birds live in million-dollar - and even billion-dollar -- facilities."
The care and feeding of the bird menagerie is meticulous and is customized to the birds individual needs. Each bird is weighed daily and a nutrition program is set to maintain optimum health; bathing and grooming are also daily rituals.
"We never sell, trade or give our birds away," he says, "and since parrots can live to be 100 years of age or more, its a commitment that TopBird Inc. takes very seriously.
